5-sentence review of Dallas premier on TNT

Season 1, Pilot and “Hedging Your Bets”

5. The new “Dallas” is just terrific.

4. TNT put together a winner by bringing back enough of the original cast — most-importantly battling brothers Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) — and mixing them with a dynamo of young cast members ready to betray, stab in the back and otherwise dirty deal in the devilish “Dallas” manner.

3. I had my doubts that the new “Dallas” could hold my attention for more than two hours, but I was enthralled and when J.R. arose from his depression for the first time it was as if Darth Vader returned.

2. Duffy was terrific, too, with as much gravitas, but I don’t want to underestimate the value of Josh Henderson, who plays J.R.’s son, John Ross, and the rest of the new cast, who show enough promise that a new generation could be just as entertaining as the first.

1. I’m hooked for the remaining eight episodes.
