My estranged sister introduced me to a lot of music from her youth. One cassette that was always playing in the tapedeck of her battered blue Camaro was “Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits,” a compilation from 1972. It was one of the first CDs I bought when Parents 2.0 gave me my first CD player for Christmas 1991. I used to play the disc on production nights for the campus newspaper during college. It was on a continuous loop and I fondly remember talking with our design editor — who was in charge of pasting up the pages to be taken to the printer — about “Cecilia” and our differing interpretations of the lyrics. I don’t remember the conversation exactly, but I had a terrible crush on the woman and she had a lovely face and mischiveious blue eyes. She’s married now and has a little girl, I think. But this song always reminds me of her and my sister, neither of whom I talk to anymore. Enjoy.
