Season 1, Episode 3: “Wujing”

Original air date: Oct. 7, 2013

“The Blacklist” was excellent in its third outing. Redgrave (James Spader) and Agent Keen (Megan Boone) go undercover to expose a Chinese terrorist who is targeting CIA agents. Keen is forced to pretend to be a computer expert, which she is not, and things threaten to go very badly when the duo are cut off from the FBI agents aiding them by remote. The mystery behind the identity of Keen’s seemingly innocent, nerdy husband Tom (Ryan Eggold) deepens. Keen has a slug from his gun analyzed. It shows up as connected to a top secret homicide with Homeland Security implications. Keen’s FBI bosses find out about her running the slug and start to monitor her house. Spader remains a joy to watch in his role as the smartest and snarkiest man in the room. He gives off a real sense of danger. Boone’s character has a ways to go before I am rooting for her, though the mystery of her husband’s identity remains is a highlight.
