5-sentence review of Anger Management premier on FX
Season 1, Episode 1: “Charlie Goes Back to Therapy”
Episode 2: “Charlie and the Slumpbuster”
5. It turns out Charlie Sheen doesn’t need the other man and a half.
4. Sheen’s new FX show “Anger Management” is more like “The Bob Newhart Show” than his old gig, “Two and a Half Men.”
3. It isn’t as funny as “Newhart” — what is? — but it is already funnier than the ninth season of Sheen’s old show.
2. Sheen plays therapist Charlie Goodson, a former ballplayer with anger management problems turned anger management therapist, who treats a cadre of off-beat characters and deals with his ex-wife Jennifer (Shawnee Smith), his obsessive-compulsive daughter Sam (Daniela Bobadilla) and sleeps with his best friend and his own therapist, Kate (Selma Blair).
1. “Anger Management” is typical set-’em, knock-’em-down sitcom, but it thrives on Sheen’s considerable charm and reminds us of something important: We missed the guy.
