5 sentence review of Person of Interest

Season 1, Episode 19: “Flesh and Blood”

5. There was so much action in this episode it felt like a season finale rather than the beginning of an arc that will close out of what has become the best new drama on network TV this year.

4. Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) learn Elias (Enrico Colantoni) plans to wipe out the heads of the five crime families in New York and take control of the underworld.

3. Detectives Carter (Taraji P. Henson) and Fusco (Kevin Chapman) try to protect the dons, but Elias has Carter’s son kidnapped and the mysterious corrupt band of cops known as HR shield Elias as he attempts to kill the mobsters under the detectives’ guard.

2. Reese rescues the boy, Finch maneuvers the HR cops with some tricky surveillance and Carter captures Elias, though he proves to be just as dangerous in jail as on the street.

1. “Flesh and Blood” is the kind of episode a show has to earn by laying groundwork and subplots throughout the season while still offering something compelling on its own each week — a feat “Person of Interest” accomplished like no other this year.

About Daniel P. Finney

A misanthrope, iconoclast and general grouch since the late 1980s, Daniel P. Finney has been a professional paragraph stacker since 1993. He reports. He writes. He blogs. He tweets. He beats deadlines. He amuses (himself, at least.) He informs. He adapts. He keeps moving forward. He eschews gatherings. The highlights of his week are Sunday chicken wings, new comics Wednesday and naps during televised sporting events. He does not wonder if there is a player to be named later in his life and spends most of his waking hours desperately trying to be left alone.
